Space Shuttle Discovery flying over Washington, DC on her was to her new home at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center. It was a glorious thing to witness!

Thank you to my Wunder friends and to the approvers. DC traffic came to a virtual standstill as everyone craned their necks to witness this flyover. It looked as if every office building in the area had a simultaneous fire drill so that the employees could be outside. I am including the Udvar-Hazy Center link below. This is the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum's location next to Dulles Airport.

Excellent capture of an historic moment. I was fortunate enough to see Columbia land and Challenger ferried back to FL all in one day in July '82 at Edwards AFB. I marveled at the size of these extraordinary vehicles. When I saw Columbia land, I thought "My God, it's a house!" I thought the same thing when the 747 took off with Challenger attached to its back.

Awesome shot. Thanks for sharing it. I only caught a glimpse of it in the far distance from my office building. I was in a meeting when it had earlier passed directly over the building. It was quite loud. You certainly captured the moment beautifully.

Ingrid, these are great pictures.
I remember when they brought the Enterprise to Washington DC - traffic came to a standstill then, too. They flew around the belt way.

I never witnessed a ferry flight, but was always in awe of them and the fact the 747 could still fly with the shuttle attached to it! I will miss the shuttle program so much!
